A few months ago I purchased a Z1 short shifter and installed it on my dd. Its been roughly about 8 months and the Nc heat combined with the tranny tunnel heat and daily abuse caused the shifter to fail. Basically the shifter shaft is made in two separate pieces so they could incorperate a rubber bushing for "better feel". The issue is the bushing is injected into the open area and that is the only thing holding the two halves together. Like I said, with all the heat and use mine suddenly separated and I lost the ability to shift so it caused me to pull over but no damage was done to the vehicle mechanically, I just had to depress the clutch and coast accross the lanes to the side where I could shut the car off. Once I figured out what happened I was able to feed the shifter back through the rubber shift boot/noise insulator and back onto the lower prtion of the shaft. After that the car was driveable until I could use my tools to fix it properly, I just had to be careful not to let the shifter come "off" again. When I returned home I used a strong epoxy that isn't affected by heat to bond the two halves back together as my permanent fix. I emailed Z1 and even though it took 4 days to get a response josh still seemed to want to fix the situation. They offered to ship me a new shifter as long as I sent the old one back. To me that did not seem logical, I don't want the same thing to happen again a few months down the road because I "fixed" a problem bu just starting the timer over. I explained my outlook but I also mentioned that I had been concidering buying other supporting upgrades so they offered store credit just for my troubles. All in all I would say even though my contacting Z1 was for a negative reason I still belive there are some good individuals at Z1. I can't vouch for everyone at Z1, nor can I say I agree with everything that happened in the past, but I can say there are still good people there and those good employees are trying to turn a new leaf on Z1's customer assistance. All in all its a good experience I had with Z1, figured I could throw this out into the lion pit, I am unbiased, I have had negative experiences with them in the past as well so add this to the list.
